Re: International Conference & Alumni Reunion: Munich, Germany, June 19-22, 2008

Dear fellow Board members,

We are writing to update you on the Duke Law School International Conference & Alumni Reunion scheduled for June 19-22, 2008, in Munich, Germany, and to let you know that we have decided to combine this special gathering with a Board meeting as we have done in years past in Geneva and China. This year, the international Board meeting will be held jointly with the Law Alumni Association and Future Forum.

Like our previous overseas events, this trip to Munich has all the ingredients to be an excellent opportunity to bond with fellow Board members, to meet and renew friendships with alumni from other parts of the world. We will also have the chance to participate in first-rate programming on business, intellectual property, education, and sports law issues. Speakers will include President Richard Brodhead, Dean David Levi, Professors Jim Cox, Jerry Reichman, and Jim Coleman, as well as distinguished businessmen, practitioners, and academic leaders from Germany and Western Europe. Approval for CLE credit is underway. In addition, we will be treated to a gala dinner celebration with international alumni and distinguished guests, be provided a selection of various tours around Munich, and opportunities to enjoy the spectacular Bavarian countryside and local tourist attractions such as world-class museums, and renowned beer halls!

We have secured a block of rooms in two excellent hotels, the five-star Charles, a Rocco Forte property, and the four-star Eden Wolff, both in downtown Munich within walking distance of one another and the conference facility at the Kuenstlerhaus. (Please note: the above hyperlinks are to view descriptions of the hotels. To register, visit our online registration page or contact Susan McLean.) We realize that planning for trips like this normally takes time on your part to see if you can fit it into your busy personal and professional schedules, but we are dealing with a particularly narrow window of time, so we hope you will join us based upon the success of our past international ventures and the outstanding itinerary we have planned.

We hope you can join us for what should be another memorable and productive international gathering of the Board. You might also consider using Munich as a launch or end point for what is surely a much needed vacation! We look forward to hearing from you soon. Please feel free to contact either of us if you have any questions or concerns.

Best regards,
