Interviewing Information
Duke University School of Law does not permit pre-screening of student resumes for on-campus interviews. All interviews are filled through a random lottery. Students "bid" during the summer on employers with whom they wish to interview.

Registration for Fall 2008 Recruiting
All employers participating in Fall OCI 2008 recruiting must use Symplicity. OCI dates are assigned in the order in which they are received based on a computerized time stamp of your on-line registration submission. Once your registration has been approved and a date assigned, you will receive an e-mail confirmation in May, requesting you to log onto Symplicity and review your schedule to ensure its correctness.
- When completing your OCI registration form, be sure to choose your preferred date AND two (2) alternate OCI dates. If the date that you request is unavailable and you have not selected alternate dates, your organization will be assigned on the next available date in the system. No date change requests can be honored under these circumstances.

Shipping Packages and Marketing Materials
If you plan to ship marketing materials to the law school to be distributed on your scheduled interview date, please send according to the following instructions:
For Interviews at the Millennium Hotel:
- Plan to mail all packages so that they arrive three business days prior to your scheduled interview date. This should provide ample time to correct errors such as lost or misdirected packages.
Please be judicious in sending packages to the Millennium Hotel for Segment I as the Duke Law Career and Professional Development Center will incur a per package charge. Per package, the charges are $5 if under 30 lbs., $8 if over 30 lbs. and $10 for display cases and exhibits. Packages will not be received at Duke Law School for Segment I, please send directly to the Millennium Hotel.
- Please address all packages as follows:
Duke University School of Law
Millennium Hotel Durham - Name of Employer
2800 Campus Walk Avenue
Durham, North Carolina 27705 - Include the following email address: CareerCenter@law.duke.edu in the shipping company’s tracking and notification system. This will help the Career Center staff know when your package has been received in our mailroom so that I can in turn track the package within the law school.
- Clearly label and package separately all materials that are to be delivered some place other than the interview room suite. The area designated for your hospitality table may not be in close proximity to your interview room. This will help us to deliver all of your materials to their proper destination.
- If you are hosting an evening reception in the Durham area, please make arrangements with the venue to ship your materials directly there.
Due to the volume of packages and marketing materials that we receive during OCI, we are unable to ship unused materials back to you after your visit to Duke Law. All unused or unclaimed materials will be discarded at the end of your interview day.
By following these easy instructions, you will help us to ensure that your time at Duke Law goes as smoothly as possible. Thank you for your cooperation.
For Interviews at the Fuqua School of Business:
- Plan to mail all packages so that they arrive at Duke Law School two business days prior to your scheduled interview date. This should provide ample time to correct errors such as lost or misdirected packages.
- Please address all packages as follows:
Tedi Mason
Duke University School of Law
Science Drive & Towerview Road
Box 90367
Durham, North Carolina 27708
919-613-7264
CareerCenter@law.duke.edu
FedEx/UPS Shipments: The Law School's physical address is Science Dr. & Towerview Rd. (Do not include the Box number).
Do not address the package to yourself or your interviewers - if our mailroom does not recognize the addressee on the package, this increases the chance that it will not be delivered to the proper place.
See above for steps 3, 4, & 5.
Conditions of Recruiting On-Campus
Anti-Discrimination Policy
"Duke University School of Law is committed to providing students and graduates with equal opportunity to obtain employment without discrimination based on race, color, veteran status, religion, national origin, political affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, age or handicap.
In the Law School's view, the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy of the United States military constitutes or permits discrimination based on grounds of sexual orientation. The School nonetheless permits the military service to use its facilities for recruitment because the failure to do so would subject Duke University to the loss of substantial Federal funding."
Statement Adopted by the Faculty of Duke Law School
STATEMENT COMPLIANCE:
PLEASE CHECK THE SECTION ON YOUR ON-LINE SYMPLICITY REGISTRATION REQUEST FORM LABELED DUKE UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW ANTI-DISCRIMINATORY POLICY TO AFFIRM YOUR ORGANIZATION'S COMPLIANCE.
All employers interviewing at Duke Law School are encouraged to be familiar with the School's Anti-discrimination Policy and the National Association for Law Placement publication, Lawful and Effective Interviewing Practices, as an aid to appropriate interviewing practices.
2008 Fall OCI Cancellation Policy
One-half of the OCI fee paid is refundable for cancellation of a scheduled interview date on or before June 1, 2008, or fewer than five students sign up to interview with an employer. *All late cancellation requests must be made in at least four days prior to your interview date.
Scholastic Standing and Grading Policy
The Law School does not release class rank.
Duke Law School uses a slightly modified form of the familiar 4.0 scale. The modification permits faculty to recognize especially distinguished performances with grades above a 4.0. The highest grade given is 4.3. A grade of 1.5 or lower is failing.
The median grade for all first- year and upper level courses of 40 or more students is 3.3.
Again, Duke Law School does not release class rank.
