Course Selection Advice
Duke Law allows great flexibility in upper-class course selection. The only upper-class requirements for the JD are an ethics/professional responsibility course and a course with a substantial writing component. Students select the remaining courses to gain in-depth knowledge of their practice areas of interest, additional training in selected skill areas, and/or coverage of areas of particular personal interest. The following are words of advice from a number of faculty assembled for that purpose:
| Professor Sara Beale | General Advice |
| Professor Steven Schwarcz | Corporate, Commercial, Financial, and Business Law |
| Professor Robert Mosteller | Litigation and General Practice |
| Professor Tom Rowe | Information on Two Upperlevel Courses: Complex Civil Litigation and Federal Courts |
| Associate Dean Carol Spruill | Legal Services and Pro Bono Civil Public Interest Practice |
| Business Law Society | Business Law Model Curriculum (doc) |
| Health Law Society | Model Curriculum for Students Interested in Health Care Law (pdf) |
| International Human Rights Law Society | How to Propose an Ad Hoc Seminar |
